According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports Saudi Media Group have made a massive offer after outgoing Blues owner Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale. Mohamed Alkhereiji is a Chelsea fan and leading a private consortium, with no direct government links. In another tweet, Jacobs added: "There is is support in finding funding and partners (but not financial backing as far as I am told) from Mohammed bin Khalid Al Saud. What's interesting about Khalid Al Saud is he's also chair of Saudi Telecom Company (STC)." Alkhereiji was in attendance for Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Manchester United last year.
He has previously lived in the UK, where he attended the Cass Business School in London. The 50-year-old also has ties with Saudi football clubs Al Nassr and Al Hilal. The Premier League giants have attracted plenty of interest since Abramovich put the club up for sale. Several American billionaires are rumoured to be interested in snapping up the club, including New York Jets owner Woody Johnson. But they face competition from Saudi Arabia, with Saudi Media Group entering the bidding war for Chelsea. Of course, Newcastle United became the richest club in the world after they were bought for £300 million by a consortium led by Saudi Arabian government's sovereign wealth fund. The outgoing Blues owner has been under intense scrutiny for alleged ties with Russian president Vladimir Putin, who launched his country's invasion of Ukraine. The latest development in the Chelsea saga saw the UK government impose sanctions on the billionaire. His UK-based assets, including Chelsea, were frozen - meaning the club is no longer able to sell new tickets, merchandise and negotiate new contracts with players. Despite the controversy surrounding Abramovich, Chelsea fans have supported him having chanted his name before and during their Premier League match at Norwich. But one fan in particular has gone in the opposite direction, revealing that he's 'walked away' from the club.
Pat, 70, has ended his association with Chelsea and has opted to get behind League Two side Sutton United. A tearful Pat told talkSPORT: "I’ve been a Chelsea fan for 62 years, I started supporting Chelsea in the 50s and I’m absolutely... "Listen, what some Chelsea fans have been doing is unforgivable. We’ve got to stand up and be counted but I’ve now, myself and my twin brother, we’ve walked away from Chelsea. "This is true, he went out yesterday and he bought two shirts for Sutton United. "He phoned me up and said, 'I’ve got two shirts here', and asked them who they were for and he said 'Sutton United. We can’t carry on supporting Chelsea'. "It’s not because we don’t love the club, it’s in our blood, we were born in Battersea just round the corner… "It’s cut me right up, all this. "We were born just round the corner and Chelsea has been our life. I’ve met Ron Harris, we were good mates with Ray Wilkins - we used to meet him down at Sutton for questions and answers - we were good mates with Gary Chivers, John Boyle who played in the 1967 FA Cup final against Spurs, he’s a good friend of the family. "But we feel all that’s gone on... we can’t take any more. "We’ve decided we’re going to go to Sutton United and support them. We’re going to the cup final [EFL Trophy vs Rotherham at Wembley Stadium], we’ve got tickets." Will any other Chelsea fans follow in Pat's footsteps and walk away from the Premier League giants?
